How Big Willies Pizza Began
After being a Chef for over 25 years, people always ask what’s your favorite food? I would simply reply to Pizza and Pasta. Coming from New York, I knew a good pie. For years San Diego lacked a good pie; in recent years, we have had some good places open that brings back that ‘taste of New York.’
Back in March 2020, COVID hit and crippled most restaurants to which I supplied produce. So, with restaurants closed, I had a lot of time on my hands and started baking bread and honing my skills in making GREAT PIZZA. After many tries, I realized that the only way to get good at making pizza was to keep making it. That said, I have given away over 100 pies to friends and neighbors. I got freaking good at pizza and decided to buy a wood-burning pizza oven to try my luck with fire. Man, the pies only got better as time went on. After all the feedback and people saying, ‘let me pay you for it, that’s when I decided to start “BIG Willie’s Pies for a Cause.”
Having been in the culinary industry for over 45 years, I realized it was time to give back. COVID has really affected many of my colleagues’ lives and families; we donated $500 gift certificates to help some of them out.
We are donating a portion of the proceeds from Big Willie’s to local charities.

"Today was the first time I placed an order for Big Willie’s Pizza, but it sure won’t be the last! The “Big Willie Neapolitan,” really hit-the-spot. And the cannoli? Just like my Grandma used to make! I bought a “Sophie,” Sicilian pizza as a surprise for my son when he returns from a trip out of the country tomorrow, and Willie even wrapped up the cannoli ingredients separately, so we can make them fresh tomorrow! I don’t know any other business where you can get that kind of service. We spent a few minutes chatting when he delivered my pizzas, and it’s obvious that his heart is in every pie he makes!"

The Sicilian is just like the back home in the Bronx, the cannoli was great too! We will definitely order again and try out another type!
